Trenchless Boring

What is Trenchless Boring?

Trenchless boring for sewer repair and water line repair

Directional drilling and horizontal boring are a newer trenchless method of underground pipe installation.  Horizontal boring actually allows you to replace the damaged pipe by pulling thru a new line underground. You do not even have to have a preexisting line or pipe.  Other methods such as pipelining require an almost perfect pipe to reline.  Pipe bursting requires a pipe to burst thru and trenching requires digging up the existing damaged pipe creating a long and deep trench.

What lines can be repaired or replaced using this method:

  • Water Main Lines
  • Sewer Main Lines
  • Storm Drain Systems
  • Conduit Lines

What Is The Process?

Measurements: are taken and an entry point and exit point are excavated to the proper depth.

Establish a Pilot Hole:  The boring head is connected to a hollow pipe which enters the ground.  As the bore head drills the hole additional pipe sections are added until the pilot hole is complete and reaches the exit point.

Use the Reamer:  After the pilot hole is drilled, a reamer is attached.  The reamer thrusts its way thru soil and rock to expand the hole 25% larger than the replacement pipe.

Pull New Line Thru:  Once the hole is bored and prepped, a new line is pulled thru the opening created to the exit point.  From there connections are made, the holes are backfilled and the project is complete.

What Are the Benefits Of Boring?

• Avoids damage to landscaping and hardscaping such as fences, gutters, sidewalks, decks, driveways etc.

• Shorter completion time

• Provides a safer work environment

• In most cases, it is more cost effective
